Tell Congress: Save the Post Office!

The Postal Service is currently operating on a $22.5 billion dollar budget deficit. In recent years, they have had to lay off more than 110,000 employees and cut back on hours of operation. They are are considering plans to close thousands of post offices and remove Saturday delivery entirely. 

Even with all these cuts, the USPS is barely surviving. It now has to default on a Congressional mandate to pay $5.5 billion to in order to pre-fund health benefits for future retirees. If Congress doesn’t act soon, the mail service could cease to exist.

We need to tell Congress to take action. It’s time for us to come together and tell our Senators and Representatives to end the pre-funding requirement and take action to protect our Postal Service.

This silly pre-funding requirement is what has the Postal Service so far in the hole. No business would be able to survive if they were required to do this. The Republicans want the Postal Service to fail, so we will have to have private mail service.

You think that private mail service would care whether or not they served the urban or rural communities? No. They wouldn’t. The Postal Service serves everyone-everywhere. A private company would serve the areas where the most money could be made. 


My Dad has nearly 30 years in the Post Office and is a loyal employee, he’s had every job there is within the Post Office and when our local Office cut back he transferred to a larger hub an hour away. He is committed to his job and the people across this country that he serves to get their mail every day. He’s a few years outside of being able to retire and we need to stop this now. Not just for my dad, but for all of the great Postal employees. Their dedication to getting stuff to our doors in a timely matter regardless of the the weather or situation is amazing. Let’s not pull them down.
